Project Management Fundamentals Course cover image

Overview

A practitioner-led introduction to project management built around the principles codified by the Project Management Institute (PMI). Our developers and instructors have spent decades running real projects across aerospace, automotive, construction, energy, and higher ed, so they teach the fundamentals the way they actually work in practice.

You pick the path: one-day in-person workshop, two-day Microsoft® Project integrated workshop or self-paced online with 11 hands-on labs. For company cohorts of five or more, we customize the case study to mirror your team’s real project context. People learn project management by planning and running projects, so that is what you do, start to finish, during the course.

What you'll learn

  • Learn PMI principles and terminology used across every industry
  • Plan a project from scope through schedule, cost, and resources
  • Practice risk management and stakeholder communication
  • Use Microsoft® Project to build and track a cost- and resource-loaded schedule (optional)
  • Experience executing and controlling a project through to close-out
  • Internalize PMI concepts you can apply on real work immediately

Frequently asked questions

I have project management experience already. Is this course for me?
If you are new to PMI principles or want to refresh fundamentals before tackling the PMP, yes. Experienced PMs also get value from the Microsoft® Project integration when we customize the case to their work.
What is the self-paced online version like?
Eleven online labs and a self-paced fundamentals course you can complete on your own schedule. You finish quizzes and exercises that mirror the in-person workshop.
Can you customize the case study for our team?
Yes, for company groups of five or more. We build a case that mirrors the kind of work your team actually runs so the lessons land in your context.
Will this prepare me for the PMP exam?
It builds the PMI foundation that the PMP exam tests. For full PMP exam preparation, see our PMP Exam Preparation Course or the Advanced Project Management Certificate (APMC).
